Departing from downtown Anchorage, the Coastal Classic Train travels south along the rugged coastline of Turnagain Arm, with dramatic views of the Chugach Mountains plunging directly to the sea. At the end of Turnagain Arm, the tracks veer away from the road system into the backcountry wilderness – and what many consider to be the most scenic stretch of the Alaska Railroad, accessible only by train. Watch for views of massive glaciers, steep river canyons, and cascading waterfalls. The train arrives to Seward at 1115 am, allowing plenty of time to explore this charming port town – or opt to take a marine wildlife & glacier day cruise into the nearby Kenai Fjords – before departing on the return journey at 6 pm that evening, arriving back to Anchorage by 10:15 pm.

Scenery was very beautiful. Accommodations was nice and staff friendly. Clean compartments. Food was expensive and average at best for adventure class to buy.

This was amazing! Seeing waterfalls, glaciers, and tunnels we would not have if we didn’t take this tour! However….. have a tour set up when you get to Seward. We didn’t do that and just got lucky that there was still available seats on a boat to whale watch. Also we went mid-September so we weren’t worried about getting on a tour cause we thought we would shop and eat for 5 hours there …. NOTHING IS OPEN! Later September most shops are already closed for the season or they don’t open till later afternoon. FYI Had an awesome train ride and the boat cruise to glacier and whale watch was so unexpectedly amazing!!!! We saw a mom and calf Orcas!!!!! Loved it!! Thank you Ronnie & Renae Minnesota

Couldn’t cancel this trip and no refund. I ran into a health condition and couldn’t travel. Was able to cancel all other trips but not this one. I wish these people could’ve been flexible.
