This day tour starts in Tirana or Durres. Meet with your local guide and continue driving to the lagoon of Karavasta. It is the largest lagoon in the country and is most notable for featuring 5% of the world population of the globally endangered and extremely rare Dalmatian pelican. Inside the lagoon, we will take a boat tour to admire and watch a diversity of birds. Later, we take a walk along the Adriatic coast for birdwatching of occasional species that visit the national park.
The trip continues next to the famous Castle of Berat. While walking in the castle, you can enjoy the narrow streets and the traditional houses. From above you will be able to have an amazing view of the old town.
Your guide will take you to discover the Mangalem neighborhood, visit the medieval centre, walk along the Osumi River, and take great photos of the Gorica Bridge. These authentic quarters have made it possible for the city of Berat to be listed under UNESCO World Heritage.

This is not a tour, just a ride to the places listed. The driver would simply park the van and let us out, not explaining where we were or what we were doing there. I say "driver" instead of "tour guide" because he did not speak to us much outside of the occasional "you can go where you want" or "we can leave when you're ready"; which left us confused, as he never told us what we were stopping for in the first place. The overview lists a few instances of birdwatching and admiring local fauna, but that was not part of our experience. If you would like to know about the medeival castle and old neighborhoods of Berat, you'll have to find that information for yourself outside of this "tour".

It was a great trip, we got to see many different sides of Albania! We were lucky with our amazing guide. He had a lot of knowledge about the different areas of Berat and the Lagoon, and was overall a great guy. Great driver too! The national park was beautiful with many birds. Berat city was also beautiful, especially the castle and old town buildings. If you enjoy both nature and architecture, this trip is highly recommended!
