    Kruja, a historical city symbol of the Albanian resistance against the expansion of the Ottoman Empire during the XV-th century. Kruja is situated in central Albania on a rocky mountainous terrain about 560 meters above sea level, on the slopes of Sarisalltik Mountain.

    Walking through the narrow streets and the wooden houses of Kruja’s Medieval Old Bazaar (one of the biggest and oldest in Balkans) gives you a sense of a passage through the history. This is the best place to shop for souvenir in Albania, from typical to more unique and handmade souvenirs such as carpets, jewelleries etc.

  • Kruja Castle, Kruje, Albania
    The castle of Kruja (built during the 5th century A.D.) is strategically placed on the top of a rocky hill, making it difficult for the enemies to attack. The tour leader will take you through some hidden paths, used by the locals to leave the castle without being noticed during periods when the enemies surrounded the castle.

    After wondering through the history of Kruja, we will drive towards the ancient town of Durres. During our visit we will pass by the amphitheater, the Roman ruins and the Venetian Tower. We will continue our tour towards the promenade by the seaside “Vollga”. Have a coffee while enjoining the view of the endless sea and soak up the sunshine. Not to be missed when visiting Durres is the traditional ice cream.

Ilir was a great tour guide, and I really enjoyed my trip. Ilir really knows his stuff, and I learnt a lot about both Durres and Kruja. The staff at Choose Balkans were really friendly and accommodating, tailoring the tour to my needs and making sure I got to the airport in time for my flight home. A great day!

Choose Balkans from booking to helping in arranging our tours were professional, pleasant & responsive to our travel requirements. They arranged a private tour for us with a guide and a clean comfortable car for us to visit Kruja and Berat for a day trip from Tirana. Our guide Juli was great, he is very friendly, informative and obliging, one of the nicest guides we have had in our travels around the world. Kruja is the ancestral home town of Skanderbeg Albanian hero and it’s a small town with the ruins of Kruja fortress, an interesting museum about Skanderbeg and Albania and a cute market with local arts and crafts. It’s a small town so it’s easily done in a couple of hours. We choose to go to Berat rather than Durres. Berat is very picturesque & historical. We had a nice lunch there and then toured Berat castle, Onufri museum, the old town and its attractions and Juli gave us ample time to also explore the town on our own too. We had a great time and highly recommend visiting both destinations.

Ilir was a great tour guide! I highly recommend him and this tour. This tour takes you to Skanderbeg's castle which is a must when you visit Albania. Durres is also a great town to visit.
