The Troll Church (484 m.a.s.l.) consists of three exciting limestone grottos with underground streams and waterfalls. The two lower grottos have beautiful waterfalls that cascade 14 metres down into a white marble pool. The uppermost one consists of long underground passages. On the surface to the west of the uppermost grotto there is a fishing lake with white marble "jetties". The mountain behind the Trolls' church is very distinctive, with jagged points and spires.

    The Trollkirka, Troll church, is no ordinary church as many may think, but an exciting marble and limestone cave in the mountains with underground rivers and waterfalls. It takes about an hour and a half to get to the caves. The main cave is about 70 m long and leads into a waterfall that falls into a white marble bowl. We will bring flashlight and lunch package for you. We recommend hiking boots / waterproof shoes for this trip because of the water inside the caves, in addition to the start of the trail that sometimes can be wet. You can take also your bikini/swimming wear and take a refreshing swim in the mountain lake closeby.

The Troll Church Cave hike was a very nice hike. A bit more challenging than originally expected but well worth the effort. Pille picked us up at the dock on time and took us through the forest up to the cave and safely back down again. Proper clothing and shoes are highly recommended for this hike.

Wandeling van 1,5 uur tot 2 uur naar boven. Goeie schoenen en kleding toch wel een vereiste. Geen makkelijke klim (als een simpele wandeling, her en der toch even goed opletten) maar wel de moeite waard (boven de boomgrens). Her en der (3x) kun je gebuik maken van touwen, maar het hoeft niet. De grot is donker, dus een lampje(s) vereist. Ook een interessant hikeje door de grot, over water en grote stenen. Te doen maar ook even verstand op nul en doorgaan en het zal je niet teleurstellen. Achteraf heel blij dat we het gedaan hebben. Pille is super vriendelijk en zorgt voor alles, inclusief drinken, eten en lampjes. Leuke uitdagende tour (voor ons dan en we wandelen best veel met de hond...)

We are both in our mid-70s, but our spirit of adventure and discoveery hasn't retired. We were looking for someone to lead us on this exciting hike to Troll Church Caves. Pille Mitt turned out to be a wonderful, patient, caring guide. She provided transportation, lunch, and personal guidance throoughout the hike. We enjoyed the local information she shared as well as the technical information for a successful roundtrip. We cherish the memories and pictures we made that day. No matter your age, this is a great hike. Get out there and enjoy it!
