This is a must do in Jordan. There are quite a few hiking trails in this region, this hike is the similar type as narrows in zion national park in the US, in that you hike through meandering water flow between a gorge, but that's where the similarity ends..!!
Incidentally I did the Narrows 2021 Sept, and the siq trail this year, also in Sept, both were on the same date, which I thought was weirdly coincidental!!
I will clarify this: I am scared of water depth(anything more than 4 feet) and I don't know how to swim, and I completed the trail. But it depends on when you are visiting. I went in september, so the preceding months did not have rain, which I think was reason enough on why I was able to complete it. But don't get me wrong, there were a few places where water was more than 6 feet deep, but they have made sure that they have really strong ropes nailed to the sides of the gorge which you can hold on to. The mandatory life vest also helped a lot.
Some pointers:
Recommend get there early, around 8ish. I reached there at 10, so had to wait for an hour or so because they ran out of life vests. And it got a little crowded in some places.
Lockers are available, if you bring your own lock. There were about 20 lockers there and I found a few available ones.
The waterproof bag(it is a bag within a bag concept) they offer is good. Not the best, but good. Please ask them for instructions on how to use them and follow those instructions. I had used it to store my phone, spare action camera batteries, wallet and cash( all stored inside a zip lock bag that I carried). When I opened it, I found a few droplets of water inside the outside bag, but none had gotten into the inside bag.
You need some upper body strength to pull yourselves up in some places using knotted ropes.
There are metal ladders that you have to use to climb up and down during the course of the hike. People are friendly, they readily give you a hand when you need it.
No, you do not need a guide to do this, I did it on my own.
