Join me on a journey to explore Amsterdam over the canals with a maximum of 8 guests at a time. All cruises through Friday to Tuesday are captained and guided by myself Boudewijn Metzelaar aka ¨Captain Jack¨ for those that are unable to pronounce my impossible Dutch name :-) Wednesday and Thursday one of my friends is taking over. There is comfortable seating for each guest indoor and outdoors, whatever the unreliabe Dutch weather may bring you will be comfortable onboard the fully electric ¨Drift Away¨ ship. A full array of (alcoholic) drinks and delicious snacks are included. Feel free to enjoy yourself with the beverages, there is a bathroom onboard! I am not only an Amsterdammer by birth, I am one by heart. Through my diverse upbringing en life choices I have developed a unique perspective on Amsterdam which I really enjoy sharing with others. The small scale of maximum 8 guests allows for an intimate and enjoyable level of conversation during the cruise.

  • Amsterdam Canal Ring, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
    All cruises are captained by myself as the captain/owner of the Drift Away. We depart from the Singel no.7 and we will return to this location at the end of the cruise. I do not offer a fixed route, depending on your wishes as guests I will tailor the cruise to you specifically. Due to the custom design of the Drift Away we have access to even the narrowest canals of Amsterdam and are able to pass even the lowest of bridges. If you do not have any preferences I will put together a route which will give you an overview of the canal belt, a few of the small less travelled canals, the Amstel river and the eastern maritime area. As a born and raised ¨Amsterdammer¨ I have a wealth of knowledge about Amsterdams history, culture and the Dutch way of life in general. I love sharing with you about my hometown in an easy going manner, with a good sense of humor and the typical Dutch straight forwardness!

A great way to see and learn about another side of Amsterdam. Jack was a great host making us feel welcome whilst sharing his extensive knowledge of his home town, with a mixture of humour and facts at a level that we all thoroughly appreciated. I don’t normally write reviews but I feel the need to recommend this cruise. Had it suggested to us by the concierge in the Renaissance Hotel. Fantastic trip! Personal, friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and great value. I’m a jaded tourist and this still impressed.. Couldn’t recommend it more.
