Join me on a journey to explore Amsterdam over the canals with a maximum of 8 guests at a time. All cruises through Friday to Tuesday are captained and guided by myself Boudewijn Metzelaar aka ¨Captain Jack¨ for those that are unable to pronounce my impossible Dutch name :-) Wednesday and Thursday one of my friends is taking over. There is comfortable seating for each guest indoor and outdoors, whatever the unreliabe Dutch weather may bring you will be comfortable onboard the fully electric ¨Drift Away¨ ship. A full array of (alcoholic) drinks and delicious snacks are included. Feel free to enjoy yourself with the beverages, there is a bathroom onboard! I am not only an Amsterdammer by birth, I am one by heart. Through my diverse upbringing en life choices I have developed a unique perspective on Amsterdam which I really enjoy sharing with others. The small scale of maximum 8 guests allows for an intimate and enjoyable level of conversation during the cruise.

  • Amsterdam Canal Ring, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
    All cruises are captained by myself as the captain/owner of the Drift Away. We depart from the Singel no.7 and we will return to this location at the end of the cruise. I do not offer a fixed route, depending on your wishes as guests I will tailor the cruise to you specifically. Due to the custom design of the Drift Away we have access to even the narrowest canals of Amsterdam and are able to pass even the lowest of bridges. If you do not have any preferences I will put together a route which will give you an overview of the canal belt, a few of the small less travelled canals, the Amstel river and the eastern maritime area. As a born and raised ¨Amsterdammer¨ I have a wealth of knowledge about Amsterdams history, culture and the Dutch way of life in general. I love sharing with you about my hometown in an easy going manner, with a good sense of humor and the typical Dutch straight forwardness!

The experience will not disappoint - Can’t recommend highly enough! The boat is beautiful, captain John is knowledgeable, kind, and fun and of course the canals are stunning. A stellar story teller, Captain John, engaged us while allowing all to chat and enjoy. We enjoyed going at 7:00pm - a wonderful way to spend the evening - not yet dark and we still had plenty of time to enjoy a snack/coffee/cocktail at a cafe afterwards.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our Captain, John, was friendly and hospitable. We found the gorgeous boat very comfortable and the small group (only one other couple) relaxing. We enjoyed the open bar. We like to book water tours during our trips (I.e. canal, harbour, river, etc), and this has to be one of our favorites ever. Highly recommend.

Excellent tour - so lovely to be in a beautiful smaller boat with a small group rather than one of those massive ones with no personality. Loved Bow's expertise, stories, and the information he shared. Really enjoyed the night cruise for the beautiful canals and city all lit up. Will go again when we come back to Amsterdam.
