During this tour we will visit locations in the city that played an important role in the occupation during World War Two and in the persecution of the Jews. Locations connected to the following topics will be visited, among others: The entry of the German Forces. Coping with the occupation; the Jewish quarter. The persecution of the Jews. The protest strike of February 1941. Collaboration and resistance. The 'Winter of Hunger' of 1944-1945. The deadly shooting at Dam Square, May 7, 1945. Liberation by the Canadians. War deads in The Netherlands.

    The Dam Square is the heart of Amsterdam and a lot of things happened there during the occupation. The shooting incident on May 7 1945, two days after the German surrender. Dutch volunteers were recruited here for the "crusade against Bolshevism". Remembrance day May 4, and the story about the WW2-monument.

Loved everything about this tour, Ben has incredible knowledge which he shared throughout the tour in an engaging way. The supporting photographs were a bonus. Communication received confirming the tour (meeting point, starting time and guide) was excellent. I recommend starting your Amsterdam holiday with this tour and then follow up with a visit to the Holocaust Museum, Resistance Museum and Anne Frank House.

This is an outstanding walking tour of Amsterdam during WW II. Our guide, Peter Schaapman is an excellent guide, He is extremely knowledgeable about all aspect of Amsterdam during WW II and to make the tour even more enjoyable he punctuated his narration with WW II pictures of locations we were currently at. This made the experience even more realistic. His English was great and thus made it easily to understand him. The pace of the tour was perfect. We did not feel rushed and the group size is limited to make it more intimate. Because of my interest in history and WW II he sent to my wife and me a PDF of his thesis "The Rescue of Jews in 1943". He also sent some recommandations for books dealing with WW II. He requests an advance reservation fora tour since his tours are limited. My wife and I strongly recommend this exceptional tour.
