This tour offers a perfect glimpse of the Netherlands in just one day. Begin in the historic city of Gouda, where you’ll stroll through its charming, canal-lined centre and learn about its world-famous cheese. Then, travel through the picturesque Dutch countryside to visit a family-owned cheese farm. The journey continues to the mediaeval fairytale village of Oudewater, where you can wander its enchanting streets and even receive a “Certificate of Weight” at the famous Witch Weighing House.

Steve, suggested during our trip planning that we do this tour on Thursday because that’s when Gouda has its cheese market. Gouda is lovely! It was crowded because of the cheese market but worth it because of our private guide, Steve. We watched a re-enacted scene of how cheese was sold “back in the day” and the weighing house was right there in the square with the original weighing scale. Stroopwaffles originated in Gouda and Steve took us to the two original stores. We enjoyed a freshly made Stroopwaffles and bought some to bring home to family, friends. Next we stopped in a cathedral that had the absolutely the most beautiful stain glass windows. Of course, the entire structure and its contents were awe inspiring. Steve let us walk around at our leisure. Also in this town, we visited the museum where people accused of being a witch was weighed. I have my certificate to prove I’m not a witch. We visited a cheese farm, tasted different aged Gouda. Of course, we bought some to bring home. Steve made sure we had a great lunch in a great place that wasn’t touristy. He continued telling us stories as we drove through the beautiful countryside. I think I could here. Thank you, Steve! I’ll work on my “G” sounds.

Steve was a fantastic tour guide! He was a world of knowledge on the history of the area, knew where to get the best stroopwafels and cheese, and provided us with a wonderful experience that we will always remember fondly.

Our tour with Steven was wonderful! He was very patient with my family and two young kids! We also made trips to the farm and windmills! We are so grateful to him and learned an incredible amount of history of Gouda! Thank you Steven!
