Monastery Sevanavank, Sevan, Armenia Monastery, situated on a rocky peninsula on Lake Sevan in Armenia, is a stunning example of medieval Armenian architecture. Originally, the peninsula was an island, separated from the shore by clear, fish-abundant waters. Monks arrived at the end of the 8th century, constructing a modest chapel and cells. Owing to its convenient location, the monastery expanded over time, with the addition of walls, watchtowers, churches, and other structures. In Middle Ages Sevanavank was a prominent historic-architectural complex, which besides the churches included constructions for different purposes (printing house, guest houses, warehouses, refectory, and so on). Sevanavank had the following churches: st. Astvatsamayr (Holy Virgin), st. Lusavorich (Enlightener), st. Hovhannes Mkrtich (John the Baptist) and st. Nshan; this names were used for the monastery for long years. 40 minutes
Hayravank Monastery, Hayravank, Armenia Hayravank is a 9th to 12th-century Armenian monastery located just northeast of the village of Hayravank along the southwest shores of Lake Sevan in the Gegharkunik Province of Armenia. The monastic complex consists of a church, chapel, and gavit.
Hayravank Monastery is a popular destination especially in summer, on Vardavar. Vardavar has its roots in pagan culture of Armenians. However, as Armenia adopted Christianity as a state religion in 301 AD, the pagan holidays were also converted and given new meanings. It is currently called the Transfiguration of Christ by the Armenian Apostolic Church. Special tours are organized to take visitors to Hayravank and then celebrations at the Lake Sevan. 40 minutes
Noratus Cemetery, Noratus, Armenia Noratus is an old settlement sheltering numerous monuments dating to the Bronze and Iron Ages. Noratus was once considered to be a village-town. The preserved medieval structures date to the 9th-17th centuries. In the 13th-14th centuries Noratus belonged to Zakaryans and was their administrative center. The settlement is located in Gegharkunik Province, close to the city of Gavar. The distance between Noratus and capital Yerevan is 95 kilometers and it takes 1.5 hours to get there. On your way to or back from the settlement you can pay a visit to the beautiful Lake Sevan and Lchashen archaeological site.
It is assumed that Noratus is the same fortress-county town of Gegharkunik built by Gegham Nahapet (Patriarch) who comes from the line of Hayk, who is believed to be the forefather of the Armenian people. Gegham Nahapet is thought to have named the fortress-county town “Noratuns” meaning “new houses.” 30 minutes

I joint a group trip to lake Seven and Dilijan, with a group mixed of Russian and English speakers. We were lucky to have Anastasia as our guide, she speaks fluent English and Russian, and was extremely patient and knowledgeable when guiding us. The driver Vardan also made sure we had a smooth and safe trip. I find myself having enough free time at each stop, lunch was delicious as well. Overall a very enjoyable day trip, I would strongly recommend.
