Ravenna: a treasure of the Mediterranean: A hidden world of mosaics and underground crypts, the absolute pearl of art of Emilia Romagna region. Several populations estabilished on the sandy Adriatic coast. This endless territory of marsh, wetlands, lagoons, swamps, despite being partially unhealthy, turned out to be the perfect shelter for a craddle of civilization.     our last Unesco site of this great tour, a tomb of the sister of the Byzantine Emperor Onorio. The light filters accross the alabaster glasses, the golden atmosphere spread out all around the inner walls and domes. The ellenistic, the greek, and the persian iconographies tell a story dating many thousands years ago, when the Mediterranean Sea was a unique closed and interconnected basin, and a craddle of several wealthy civilizations.

Riccardo is an excellent tour guide! He is knowledgeable and passionate about the local history and really enjoys sharing it with others. The mosaics in Ravenna are superb - a hidden gem! Riccardo was very generous with his time and easily accommodated last minute changes (including crazy traffic!). Highly recommend taking his Ravenna tour and any of the Bologna tours Riccardo offers! Wish I planned more time in Bologna, really enjoyed the day with Riccardo as a guide, he’s great!
