Sounio on the cliff today stand the ruins of the ancient temple of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. The temple of Poseidon was built between 444-440 BCE. It stands at about 60 metres above sea level and like other temples has a rectangular shape. There were 34 columns originally and there are 15 of these still standing today. The columns remaining are surprisingly well preserved considering the wind up on the headland and daily exposure to the elements. Flanked on three sides by the sea, it is easy to see why this spot was an excellent vantage point for spotting incoming ships.     Sunset is the best time to arrive at the 5th-century-B.C. Temple of the mythical sea God Poseidon. Perched on cliffs above Cape Sounio, the temple ruins, surrounded on three sides by sea, have stunning views out over the Aegean. It was mentioned in Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey. More recently, English Romantic poet Lord Byron visited this atmospheric spot in 1811 and inscribed his name at the base of one of the temple's Doric columns.

Manos our drive,r was exceptional, super knowledgeable, educational and informative! He really helped us to understand the Greek culture and history with many informative stories and insights! This is a must see destination, especially at sunset! Thank you Manos! You were terrific!

I spent 17 days in Greece, we visited 5 islands, and this tour was one of my favorite parts of the entire trip. The Temple of Poseidon itself was magical to see up close and personal, but with the sunset aspect included it was beyond amazing. This was the least crowded ruin of all the ones we visited too! It was easy to get pictures without having any other tourist in the shot. Manos made the drive enjoyable by teaching us the I rich history of Athens and this site in particular. The dinner spot was delicious, it had a gorgeous view of the coast at night, and we had the entire place to ourself. I cannot say enough good things about this tour- or any tour hosted by this group. I think we did 3 overall. 10/10

Manos and Ilias are great! We are fron the US (Arizona) got a taxi ride to and from the airport, to the Temple of Poseidon. The Temple of Poseidon was one of the best sunsets I have seen ever! Both are helpful and my nice to talk about Greece.
