Traveling along the coast, we head to the southernmost tip of the peninsula of Attica, Cape Sounion, a getaway close to Athens and famous for its beaches, fish restaurants and the striking ruins of the Temple of Poseidon. Set high atop a cliff rising above the Aegean Sea, the temple forms part of a trio of ancient sites, including the Acropolis, and the Temple of Aphaea on the Greek island of Aegina. Equal distances from each other as the crow flies, on a clear day you may be able to see all the monuments from the others. Sounio is also where Aegeus tragically fell from the cliffs when he saw the black sails that his son had forgotten to change, therefore believing he had died. The Aegean Sea was thus named after him. It is a beautiful place to watch the sunset, the white marble columns framed by the sky and the lovely blue sea!

  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

If you are in Athens and looking for an amazingly articulate, informed and entertaining tour please do not look any further. Terry was a fabulous raconteur, entertaining both myself and my 15yo daughter throughout our 5 hour tour around Athens and onto The Cape. He was thoughtful, engaged and willing to go the extra mile. I cannot recommend CAT highly enough.

Utilizamos os serviços da Cattaxi como transfer do aeroporto e no passeio privado para o Cabo de Sunion. No cabo nosso motorista foi o Terry que na verdade foi um perfeito guia, nos contando toda a história. Ele também nos levou a um restaurante típico e foi muito atencioso. This was a great experience from end to end. We were picked up on time, in a very comfortable sedan. Our driver, Aristotle, was clearly very experienced. Our journey to and from the Cape was very enjoyable. Ari was knowledgeable, but did not dominate he conversation. The Cape and Temple area are simply stunning and to be there at sunset was a truly memorable experience. As the sun set it provided a very surreal experience, made even better by the contrast of the sun setting behind one of the Islands and the golden rays kissing the columns of Poseidon. After sunset Ari allowed us time to enjoy a leisurely drink, thereby avoiding the traffic headed back to Athens. Not to be missed.
