Along Adelaide’s cultural boulevard North Terrace find among others, the beautiful landmark buildings that are home to Adelaide University campuses, the South Australian Museum, Art Gallery, and State Library of South Australia. Separating the city from North Adelaide and running along the river is the bustling Riverbank Precinct. Its wide green banks, trails, cafes and public spaces provide a fantastic location for leisure activities including picnics, running, cycling and special events. Along the banks see historic rowing sheds, the impressive Adelaide Convention Centre, the Adelaide Festival Centre and the $40 million landmark riverbank footbridge that links to the world-famous Adelaide Oval.

    Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the river, parks and wetlands as you ride deeper into the corners of the city past the Torrens Weir, under the railway and onto the Bonython Park wetlands. Following the trail to the edge of the northern parklands we take at stop for some revitalising morning tea at the quirky Red House café, which has taken over the old railway station at North Adelaide. Purposely designed by Colonel William Light’s vision for the city development and layout, the parklands provide a unique and incredibly important feature of Adelaide’s culture. Adding to the vibrancy of the city they are used for recreation, community sports, music concerts and large scale events such as the Adelaide Fringe. Following the trails to the most beautiful and significant areas the tour will criss-cross the south, east and northern parklands.

Not a good experience from the start. Bicycle tires were under inflated on both our bikes. Needed to request more air 2 times. My spouses seat angle couldn't be adjusted as guide didn’t have proper tools (wrench). My bike was small size (I’m 6’ 1”) which made ride difficult. The guide’s bike broke down right away, luckily it was near the start so he could go back to get replacement. The guide didn’t seem to understand this was bike tour, not just a bike ride. Each time we stopped I had to keep asking him if we had passed anything of significance because he didn’t mention anything until near end when he pointed out a stadium and church but we were too far away to hear what he had said. It doesn’t get better, he peddled so slow it was difficult to keep upright half the time. He spent much of the time looking at his smart phone (while riding) I expect to find best route. We normally enjoy city bike tours but not his one, very poor value.

We were the only two who we on the tour so shout out to Cane who showed up to tour us around. It was a nice leisurely cycle around the CBD green space and very informative. Looking forward to the city to sea ride at some point soon.

Throughly enjoyed our bike tour around Adelaide parklands with Ben. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to experience this vibrant, cosmopolitan city up close.
