Shame we weren’t told that the tour no longer visits Maggie Beers until after our first stop. Our driver said the contract ran out a month ago, so would have been nice to know that in advance so that we could possibly make other arrangements. Instead, we were dropped off at a little collection of companies and given only 45 minutes to explore all 5 of them, all of which were at our own extra expense. Also, the chocolate tasting stop was a little disappointing - the wines were all quite average and the chocolates were just simple white/milk/dark squares. I was expecting something really interesting and exciting about the specific pairings of certain chocolates with certain wines. Our driver for the day was informative and amusing although he seemed to have a lot to complain about. The first stop at Pindarie Estate was great, the food at lunch was delicious, and the day was overall enjoyable, but definitely was expecting a little more.

Very good day tour with Phil, our driver/guide & 26 other passengers. So not really a small group tour as advertised, but group size didn’t give any problems on the day. 1st stop was Pindarie winery, where we got a tasting of six wines from Wendy, the owner, followed by coffee & a brownie. This was followed by a visit to Maggie Beers Farm Shop, which for us was the least interesting stop of the day, as being from the UK we had no idea who she was & she wasn’t there anyway, so for us it was just a visit to any farm shop. Next was Lambert Estate, the highlight for us. Tasting of 3 wines + a chocolate port, together with a very good 2 course lunch. A quick stop at a lookout was followed by a stop at the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company, where we tried chocolate paired with 3 wines. Overall we felt the balance of the day was very good & Phil provided a good, albeit non-stop(!) commentary.

The scenery was beautiful and the two wineries we visited had delicious wine and food with very knowledgeable and accommodating staff. Pindarie and Lamberts were both fantastic. Shame the bus driver was rude and that instead of the Maggie Beer farm we had a wasted stop with not a lot to do and nothing to taste. Last stop at the chocolate factory felt rushed as I think the bus driver was keen to knock off early. The staff at the chocolate factory were absolutely lovely.
