Departure Point
76 Yallingup Caves Rd, Yallingup WA 6282, Australia
Ngilgi Cave, Yallingup, Western Australia, Australia Experience the beautiful bush surrounds while you learn about Ngilgi's rich history - from the fascinating Aboriginal Dreamtime story describing the battle between a good spirit (Ngilgi) and an evil spirit (Wolgine). The cave now takes its name from this rich Aboriginal legend. However, it was formerly known as Yallingup Cave, when the first tourists arrived in 1899. Your guide will regale you with stories of these early cave tourists - of candlelight tours, romantic escapades and close encounters - as you make your way down into the cave. You will then be free to discover the beauty of Ngilgi Cave on your own.
Extensive boardwalks lead you through the impressive chambers of this underground wonderland. Along the way, lighting illuminates hidden marvels and signage allows you to learn more about the remarkable crystal cave decorations. Another guide stationed in the centre of the cave can answer questions and provide more information on the many beautiful areas within the cave. Discover new chambers and formations at every turn, including the 'Fairy Cave' and 'Cupid's Corner'. There is also a junior explorer's tunnel to provide fun for little ones!

A brief history of the cave and then left to our own devices. Took approximately an hour to view. Originally told there were two separate caves to view, but it seems they are interconnected, which made the signage entry/exit a tad confusing.
Be aware this is a physically demanding cave if you have any issues with seep steps, something I discovered the hard way. Quite beautiful, and certainly worth the visit.

I went to these caves expecting Aboriginal People's stories, as every social engine includes this cave as a semi-guide tour focusing on the traditional custodians of the place. However, there was only a person on site after you enter the cave. You walk the cave alone plenty of corners, light is on most places. The person by the table could not offer more than the name of the custodians of the site. I reckon that is the definition of semi-guided tour because we walked all by ourselves - relying on stand alone signs with information about famous local people, e.g. some information about couples that wed and went to wander in the caves plus a singer that went on to sign off her name in one the crystals in the manner of a graffiti did not make my interest increase on a site that might have some Aboriginal cultural significance perhaps even to be away from some corners. I would have also expected more information about climate change affecting the cave and the inner environment, plus the cave's biodiversity as there are a fair bit of arachnids inside than for instance on Jenolan Caves NSW, which are perhaps more informative for the public.
