We visited Baku in April of 2023. The weather was perfect for this all day outdoor exploration of areas surrounding Baku.
We truly enjoyed the group experience. Our tour group had people from multiple nations and it was fun to explore Azerbaijan together and learn about each other as well.
Our first stop were the mud volcanoes. It was quite exhilarating to experience the off road driving in the former soviet taxis. These drivers have skills! The mud volcanos were truly interesting. The mud bubbles up from the mounds in the ground and appear to boil out of the earth, but they are actually cool to the touch. Bring wet wipes if you plan to touch the mud, it can be a messy experience.
We then traveled to museum to learn about the petroglyph and history of the people who lived in the caves of Azerbaijan. It was nice to learn the information from the museum before heading to the site of the actual petroglyph and caves.
Lunch was at the fish market. We ate family style and had time for sharing and conversation.
The last part of our tour took us to the museum that taught about the eternal flame and the religious beliefs surrounding that time in Azerbaijan history. The museum is set upon the historical site of the old temple.
We then traveled to the mountain where fire is currently burning non-stop day and night.
It was a long day of exploration, around 9hours. Being with a diverse group of travelers made the day truly enjoyable.
Our tour guide Ali was knowledgeable and patient to answer all our questions.
It was a fun tour and a great day.
