    ATT: Algar do Carvão will be closed from Oct 19th 2024 to Mar/Apr 2025 during this period we will be showing a hidden lava tube instead. Located in the Caldeira Guilherme Moniz, an ancient dormant volcano, in this Algar visitors can descend to a depth of around 100 meters, and observe stalactites that are unique in the world due to their silicate characteristics, and an underground lagoon, with crystal clear waters. It is classified as a Regional Natural Monument.

    It is a very extensive geological formation, resulting from the formation of a lava tube in the interior of the island, included in the Serra de Santa Bárbara and Mistérios Negros Natural Forest Reserve.

    Furnas do Enxofre is located in the parish of Porto Judeu, in the Municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, on the island of Terceira, in the Azores. They constitute a fumarolic field, that is, an area that comprises several outlets of aggressive volcanic gases, at different temperatures, some quite high.

Incredible journey through the Gruto Natal and Algar do Carvão, wear rain gear and hiking boots because the caves are wet and constantly humid and dripping with water ????

It was an amazing tour from beginning to end. I loved the additional information provided by the guide as well. She gave excellent advice and provided history to the places we visited. Would definitely recommend!!

Going down into the chimney. It is amazing! The lighting makes it so dramatic. Would highly recommend this tour.
