Holy water purification, known as melukat, is a sacred ritual aimed at cleansing the mind, body, and spirit. This ritual, deeply rooted in Balinese Hinduism. This purification ritual is often performed to mark new beginnings, seek spiritual protection, or prepare for major life events. It’s a deeply personal and communal experience, often leaving participants feeling renewed and spiritually refreshed.

Shamans, known as "balians," are respected healers who are believed to have a special connection with the spirit world and possess the ability to communicate with spirits to diagnose and treat illnesses. The healing process typically involves rituals, prayers, herbal remedies, and sometimes trance-like states induced through chanting or meditation. Balians often use traditional tools such as talismans, crystals, and other symbolic objects during the healing sessions. The aim is not only to address physical ailments but also to restore spiritual balance and harmony within the individual and the community. Overall, Balinese shamanic healing reflects the interconnectedness of the physical, spiritual, and social realms in Balinese culture.

  • Mengening Temple, Tampaksiring, Indonesia
    Pura Mengening is located in the village of Saraseda, Tampaksiring, Gianyar regency, Bali. The temple area is very cool with beautiful natural scenery. Pura Mengening is a temple to the place of melukat (perform self-cleaning with holy water) and a place to request tirtha (holy water for ceremonies for Hindus). Inside this area there is a pool for self-cleaning. This pool is divided into two, namely the pool of women's baths and one separate pool for men. These springs are natural sources of springs that have existed since the 11th century. The water in this bath pool is very cool and clear. To be able to bathe in this pool is expected to present the canag and incense before then take a bath and pray for the coolness given physically and spiritually.

This was an amazing day with high spiritual experiences. It was so great to see, how a healer can find Energy blocks in your body…and to come into higher frequency after the purification…go there with an open heart and god will answer

A really interesting view into the world of Balinese culture with a visit to the healer's house, the guide also gave us information about Balinese houses. The healing was spot on with her observations & massage. İ loved the blessing afterwards too. The purification ceremony was incredible, the information given by the guide was very helpful. İ loved the whole purification experience & the insight into the practice & the culture.

Jana made this a wonderful experiment. He is very knowledgeable and considerate. He was on time and chatted to us about Bali sharing his knowledge. The experience with the shaman was something new for us, she has a genuine gift and gave advice on how to heal. Jana then asked if we were interested in any arts and took us to a jewellery shop which is also crafts studio, an artists studio and wooden craft shop. It’s a good opportunity to learn about how things are made. If you are looking to buy, these are higher quality than what you’ll find around town. Next stop was the temple which was beautiful. Jana explained everything and guided us throughout. Jana also took pictures and videos with our phone throughout the tour saving wonderful memories for us. This temple is much quieter than the tourist one and felt personal. Highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in this type of activity.
