Montserrat mountain is one of Barcelona and Spain's most popular tourist attractions with breathtaking scenery, unique rock formations and panoramic views of the Catalan countryside. This historic monastery has been perched at 726 metres height on Montserrat mountain for almost a thousand years. Our Montserrat half-day tour visits the Basilica and sanctuary of the Virgin Mary of Montserrat which is home to the Black Madonna sculpture 'La Moreneta.' The tour includes walking tour of the monastery area, tickets for the Basilica and Black Virgin (pending availability of tickets). After visiting the Basilica, options include a walk to St. Michaels Cross (around 40 min. walk in total with some steep inclines), or a funicular train ride (€16/pers). If tickets are already sold out for the entrance to the Basilica on your tour date, we will contact you to offer alternative tickets at the Monastery, e.g. to the a/v exhibition or Montserrat Museum. We can also refund the value of the tickets (€9) on the tour and spend more time exploring the surroundings or take an optional funicular ride higher up the mountain (€16 per person).

This review is long overdue, but we cannot let one full year go by without giving our rave reviews for Carl and "Day Trips Barcelona." Carl was very knowledgeable about the history of the Black Madonna, Montserrat Abbey and its surrounding mountain range. He was very attentive to all our needs, going with our somewhat slow-pace due to a painful foot/ankle that I twisted a few days before. He customized our private tour so that we can be able to see and do everything we wanted to at my slower pace, getting us very early to the basilica to touch the Black Madonna before the crowd and tour groups arrived; giving us a glimpse of the quiet room where a wooden modern carved features of Jesus follows you everywhere you go with his eyes; giving us important fact about the abbey's courtyard; getting us back inside the basilica to accommodate our wish to hear the L'Escolania Boys' Choir perform at 1:00 p.m; acting as our personal photographer to take great pictures of our trip to Montserrat; etc. . Carl is very friendly and a great conversationalist. From the time he punctually picked us up in front of our hotel, he made us feel welcomed and comfortable. There was never a boring or dull moment with him during our 7-hour tour; and our topics ran the gamut of interesting facts and history about Montserrat, Barcelona, and about each other's family life. With our short time with Carl, we got to know him and his personal/family life, as he took the time to personally get to know each one of us in our group. All in all, he made our trip to Montserrat a memorable and an unforgettable experience.
