Rather than join an inexpensive but large group tour or to pay high fee for smaller private tour, I opted for a self-guided option with Pandemic Tours. I simply downloaded the app, paid a small fee, and pressed start. I could start/stop/browse as I wished, and I could choose my own order of sights. The brief narratives at each site were detailed enough to understand what I was experiencing and to decide if I wanted to learn more. For example, after listening to “Helen” describe the Roman Baths, I decided to pay the entrance fee and explore in more depth. I also was able to revisit a couple of sights and re-listen to the narrative. Fortunately, I was there when they opened, and no lines and no crowds were wonderful. I had one minor glitch with the app which was providing incomplete audio narratives; however, simply reloading the app solved that issue. In addition, I inadvertently double booked my tour, and the support line quickly corrected my double payment. Everything was tweaked quickly and satisfactorily. So taken as a whole, I would w/o reservations recommend Pandemic Tours to anyone who likes to tour solo and make their own adjustments.
