In Bay of Islands, we took the ship tender ashore and then it was a short walk to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. For international travellers entry is $70 NZD, so make sure you have enough funds or use your credit card. While we waited for our guided tour to start we visited the Museum of Waitangi giving information about how NZ came about. Then our guide took us round the main sites in the Treaty Grounds. The tour finished with a cultural performance. In total we were there for about 3 hours.

Visited Waitangi Treaty Grounds on one of our second day touring New Zealand. Our guide was a delightful fountain of knowledge. CC regaled us in an entertaining manner that allowed us to learn and absorb the entwining history of the cultures that make of the fabric of New Zealand. We learnt a great deal and enjoyed our visit tremendously. Thank you CC. The grounds and facilities are not only historically significant but very beautiful.

Absolutely brilliant! An excellent site with several very good museums which gave the full picture of Māori history and the founding of NZ. We also enjoyed the cultural performances and tour . We went back for a second day as we enjoyed the experience so much and wanted to look at some exhibits again .
