Discover 13 centuries of history with our experienced guides. On the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1979, Mont-Saint-Michel is an incredible master-piece of architecture surrounded by the beautiful seascape of one of the largest bays in Europe. Your guide will first present you the village on the island, where shops and restaurants have existed for 1000 years. Then you will climb to the top of the rock where you will visit the different rooms of the abbey and you will have the chance to understand what was the life of a monk in the "City of Books", through different wars over centuries. Also, your guide will explain to you the slow construction of the abbey, from its pre-romanesque times to the French revolution, and the use of the different rooms of the abbey.

    We will first drive 1h30 to Mont-Saint-Michel. Mont Saint Michel is the most visited site in Normandy and one of the most visited sites in France. The first construction on the rock was built in 708. A few decades later, it became a major pilgrimage site for all Christians in the world. Thanks to the work of the religious community on the Mont, the site was seen as an intellectual reference in Europe where thousands of books, manuscripts and charters were written. In the 19th century, the importance of Mont Saint Michel was in decline and it became a prison after the French Revolution in 1789. From 1793 until 1863, the site had the worst reputation and was nicknamed the Bastille of the seas… The building suffered from the lack of maintenance during that time and almost disappeared after the French stopped using it as a prison. Fortunately, it was saved from destruction and many architects renovated it from then until present day. After the visit, we will drive back to Bayeux 1h30 .

Viator hooked us up with HQ Company tours. MicKael Patin, Co-manager, of HQ Company Tour was fantastic. He spoke excellent English (and other languages) and drove us safely from Bayeux to Le Mont Saint Michel (and back) for a fabulous and informative tour of that amazing historical place. MicKael was personable and guided us through the entire abbey. The all-inclusive price was quite reasonable. We could not have asked for a better tour.

HQ Company Tour is THE BEST! Less than one week prior to leaving for France, I received a message from our hotel asking if we could change the day of our shuttle to Mont St Michel because they did not have enough people. In order to make this happen I needed to make significant changes to our itinerary as it impacted a Normandy tour and hotel stays. I tried several times to make the necessary adjustments. I would book tours through trip advisor/viator for both Mont St Michel and Normandy, breathe a sigh of relief and then hours later receive a message from the tour operator that they were not offering a tour for that date, even though it appeared to be available through the trip advisor/viator site. Finally, I was referred to HQ Company Tour! Through their website, I reserved a full day tour, NOT just a shuttle, to Mont St Michel and a half day Normandy tour. Once booked they took care of everything. Our guides, Pierre and Gwen were amazing; experienced, well educated, knowledgeable and able to convey their knowledge in an understandable manner, great at meeting us where we were at in our understanding of history, easy to understand, and especially passionate about their country and its history, which drew us in and made us want to learn more. Not to mention their website was user friendly and responses timely. During our France vacation we spent time in Paris, Versailles, and Bayeux. Our HQ Company Tours of Mont St Michel and Normandy were NOT just tours, they were experiences and the highlight of our time in France!
