Drum Tower (Gulou) Park, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China This hidden gem offers rooftop views of Beijing’s historic bell tower and serves local hotpot in traditional copper pots and filled with a clear broth that highlights the quality ingredients. Thin slices of mutton and beef are quickly cooked in the pot and then dipped in a sauce made with sesame paste…plus grab a pint of local craft beer!
Nanluoguxiang, Beijing, China Run by a husband-wife team, this hidden restaurant specializes in spring pancakes, a dish traditionally enjoyed with family during Chinese New Year to celebrate the arrival of spring and a good harvest. Made fresh to order, they are eaten like a burrito and symbolize family reunion and togetherness.
W9PX+R4V, Dou Jiao Hu Tong, Dong Cheng Qu, Bei Jing Shi, China, 100009 When Beijingers want noodles, there’s only one dish we think about. Andy was a great guide and the food was delicious. I probably would not have tried most of the food we ate were it not for this tour.

Great experience. Our guide Flower was really fantastic and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and there was unlimited beer and soft drinks, which was refreshing in July heat. It was great to meet other foreigners in Beijing.

Very well-selected restaurants which allowed us to sample various dishes (all delicious). We would have never explored the area and nor would we have been adventurous enough to order anything in any of the restaurants. The ride on the tuk tuk was fun and presented us with a direct view of the hutongs. The tour guide, Cherry, was attentive and met all our needs. We took our six-year-old twin boys and they enjoyed it, too.
