The Belvedere is a World Heritage Site, a Baroque jewel, and the site of the Austrian State Treaty. It is both one of the oldest museums in the world and a venue for contemporary art. The Baroque gardens of the Belvedere rank among the most beautiful in the world. The main garden is situated between the Lower and the Upper Belvedere and extends over three large terraces. Entry ticket only (no guided tour included). Visitors may proceed to the museums entrance directly and enjoy their visit individually. Exhibition Highlights The Lower Belvedere will start the year with In the Eye of the Storm, Modernism in Ukraine. Following this, Hannah Höch (1889-1978) will be honored for the first time with a retrospective in Austria. The Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo and the Finnish artist Akseli Gallen Kallela will also be exhibited in 2024.

    The Belvedere in Vienna is one of the leading museums worldwide. Its famous art collection includes works ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day. The unique, overall complex, with its two palaces, the Upper and Lower Belvedere, and their extensive gardens, is one of the most stunning Baroque architectural ensembles in the world. In the 18th century, the Austrian general Prince Eugene of Savoy commissioned the renowned Baroque architect Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt to build a summer residence. After the death of Prince Eugene, Empress Maria Theresa acquired the entire complex and transformed the Upper Belvedere into an exhibition venue for the imperial collections – making it one of the first public museums in the world. The Lower Belvedere, formerly the residence of Prince Eugene, is nowadays home to illustrious exhibitions. Entry ticket only (no guided tour included). Visitors may proceed to the museums entrance directly and enjoy their visit individually.

We stumbled into this palace as it was close to our hotel . A lovely autumns walk via the Botanical garden . We had sunshine today it made everything more beautiful.

Nous avons fait le belvédère supérieur et inférieur. Depuis février le belvédère inférieur est vraiment à faire, 90 oeuvres de Klimt y sont ainsi que du Shiele, Monet, Matisse, van Gogh..... A faire absolument!!!!! le belvédère du haut, le bâtiment est plus vaste mais les oeuvres ne m'ont pas touchée autant... et de loin. restaurant Art Corner juste à coté de l'entrée, très bien.

The upper museum has brilliant Central European artists from Hungary and the Czech Republic. The lower museum had the Klimt exhibit and it was mesmerizing. The Belvedere is a “must see.”
