    A dominating statue of the Buddha is the first thing you see as you approach the Kande Viharaya. Set on an 18th century hilltop temple, this 160 feet tall statue of the Buddha sitting cross-legged is believed to be one of the tallest in the world. The temple was originally discovered in 1734 and has since been a significant site for worshippers and is known to be one of the most sacred temples on the island. Within the sacred premises, you’ll find a Stupa. a 300-year-old Bodhi Tree that sits in the garden, a Relic Chamber; the oldest structure within the sacred site, the Upulvan Devalaya and other temples including Kataragama and Pattini Devalaya.

The tour was really great. The guides were knowledgable, friendly and really caring. The only thing that could be better would be the use of electric engines with boats during the river safari. It would help cut down on noise and air pollution, which would prevent the animals from being scared away and improve the air that the passengers have to breathe - which really consisted of lots of fumes.

We had an absolutely amazing day, our driver was excellent. The river boat tour was really good, we saw many animals thanks to our guide. We especially enjoyed the temple, it was very beautiful and an honour to take part with the warm and friendly community. Overall a great introduction to this wonderful country

Where to begin! From start to finish it was wonderful, Sam organised everything for us and Dinesh our driver was so kind and sweet and waited for us at each stop. We started with a River Safari where we saw crocodiles, monkeys (with one peeing on my sister, a memory that will last forever), birds, lizards and more. We then went to a gem museum and from there went for a delicious lunch! The food was the best we have had since being here. After lunch we went to see the Sea Turtle Conservation which was something we will remember forever. Lastly we went to a Tea Factory where we learnt so much abut tea and the making of it. Thank you so so much to BTM for organising such a fabulous day out, we have created memories that we will cherish forever. One recommendation; we suggest brining some smaller and larger notes to tip if you want to. Thank you, Emma and Katie
