This trip was amazing. It covered some of the key things I wanted to see in Nairobi in one day. I liked that Meshack the driver contacted me to let me know he was picking up other passengers and was running a bit late.
I was put together with a group of Greek tourists who were good fun as we visited the giraffe centre where you can feed the giraffes pellets of grass, and then the David Sheldrick Elephant orphanage. This was one of the highlights of my trip. The elephants come running down to get their milk. The talk about conservancy is very interesting. There were a lot of people there and it’s hard to get tickets (you can’t just walk in) but I feel it is ethically run and they focus on one main viewing 11-12.
We visited a bead making co-operative for single women which was great. The bead shop sells the bracelets, belts etc but prices are a little hefty. However I’d rather buy things here and support this cause.
After that I was a bit surprised as the driver then said I was to go with a different driver / group for the rest of the tour as the others weren’t going on to the afternoon part. However we drove to the Golden Eagle cafe and had lunch and the new group & driver (part of the same company) were there so it felt fine.
If you are someone who likes your plans really clear do check this before signing up as they often work across-company depending on who wants to go where which can seem a bit confusing. The new driver Titus was very good and friendly.
I enjoyed the traditional tribal huts tour at the Bomas of Kenya but there are several sites to visit so take a hat and sun cream!
The dancing show was fun and participative but we left early as the day had been pretty long - starting at 8.30 and the dancing didn’t start until 3.30. On a Sunday it is later due to church services etc.
All in all a wonderful day and a true insight into Nairobi!
