Irazu Volcano National Park, Costa Rica Visit the National Park where we can check and even be inside one of the 3 craters (inactive) of the Highest Volcano in the country. We will also experience the highland ecosystem of Paramo; a tropical dwarf forest.
Please pay your entrance fee on the day of the tour by cash. 60 minutes
Turrialba Volcano, Cartago, Costa Rica We will visit the closest town to Turrialba Volcano,"La Central Town" where the sights are impressive due to the volcanic activity of recent years which has created a barren landscape.
The town is really interesting because it's kind of abandoned and has a spooky feel to it, however, the surroundings are full of farms with picturesque landscapes and views. With some luck, we will be able to see potatoes, carrots, beets, and other vegetables being harvested by locals and learn about costarican agriculture.
30 minutes
Guayabo National Monument, Turrialba, Costa Rica We will visit the most important archaeological landmark in the country. This prehispanic settlement was recognized as a Civil engineering World Heritage site and is located in a protected area surrounded by lush rainforest. You'll learn about costarican indigenous cultures and with luck, we'll see some interesting fauna as well.

Luis and André, the guides, are very attentive and passionate about what they do. They have great knowledge about mushrooms and other related topics, and explain very clearly. The place is beautiful, and we managed to see about 40 different species of fungi.

The tour guide, Rigo, was passionate about the wonders of the natural world, which made the tour fun and exciting. He was quite knowledgeable about ecosystems, and the interactions between plants and animals. The fauna we saw included leafcutter ants, a sloth, morpho butterflies, and several types of birds. The drive through the countryside was relaxing. Unfortunately, it was a cloudy day, so there was limited visibility of the volcanoes, although I briefly saw the central crater of Irazú volcano. Visiting Guayabo monument is much more interesting with a guide since the site has minimal informational signage. I appreciated the small size of the tour group—I was the only person on the tour that day—since it allowed for a more personalized experience.

Our tour guide, Eduardo, picked us up at our hotel and gave us a wonderful tour of beautiful views from backroads along the way to Guayama and volcanoes. Eduardo was very informative and took great care of us all day. We stopped for a delicious lunch at a spot that had animals and gardens and, of course views. At the Guayama site we not only saw the ruins but got to experience wildlife including a sloth climbing along a branch that Eduardo video recorded and shared with us. He also does wildlife photography so this was a great opportunity for us. If you’re looking for a way to see the beauty and history of Costa Rica, sign up and ask for Eduardo!
