Medoc or Saint Emilion Wine Tasting and Chateau from Bordeaux

Our guide was galaada and honestly the woman is amazing. She was so patient and informative and answered all the questions asked. She made sure we were comfortable and enjoyed the whole tour. I cannot recommend this enough. Planning my next trip to bordeaux already

We went on the half day (5.5 hrs) trip from Bordeaux to St Emilion on Monday. We met by the Girondins monument and though it said the front, we met at the side, on the steps. They ask you to get there early but they don’t turn up until 2pm (which is fine, but we, and some others, rang to check we were in the right place!). Staff wear straw hats and hold placards so they are identifiable. Our guide was Theo and there were 8 of us on an air conditioned minibus. He had a microphone so we could all hear his commentary which was informative en route. We stopped at a new chateau, had a guided tour of the vineyards, got to see the vats and have the process explained to us and then on to a tasting of 2 of their wines (note the majority of the wines in this region are red). We then went on to St Emilion where Theo gave us a guided walking tour, which was again informative. Of note, the start is all down hill…which clearly meant the route back to the mini van was all uphill. Whilst this was ok, I do think people with mobility issues may struggle with the stone steps and inclines. Next, on to another chateau and whilst it was the same routine as the other one, it still felt different which was good. This time, after the tour the tasting was 3 different vintages of the same wine and Theo prepared starting platter of chocolate, cheese, bread and meat and the chateau owner explained with wine paired best. There were opportunities here to buy the chateau branded glasses and other items. Overall a great afternoon, felt like good value, definitely learnt a lot! One tip, take water as there isn’t any provided.

The St. Emilion village walk and wine tasting and production facility experience at the 2nd winery we visited (la croizille) was a great introduction to a beautiful historical and wine-making area of Bordeaux. The tour guide, Isabella, was fantastic and quite knowledgeable on the area's history. Wish we could have gone on to even more wineries and areas!
