As part of the overall Bordeaux experience, it would be incomplete without a trip to the Medoc region. Having done the full day in St Emilion, maybe my opinion had been spoiled a little because this trip just didn’t live up to the quality of the other. Perhaps it was just because I did a half day and there wasn’t enough time to get the full experience… I don’t know. What I can say is that there were two wine tours and a visit to take a picture of the chateau Margaux. Basically this is a rich persons very old house and winery- didn’t blow my socks off but if this is your thing, it’s your thing. The first winery was a nice enough venue and gave the experience of what high volume wine production can look like in France. The tour guide there was nice but impossible to understand her English. The worst part though was the ridiculously small portion of wine she poured. Didn’t even get enough wine to tell honestly if I liked it or not- for this reason I think I wouldn’t book this tour again. The second winery was much better experience. The guide there was more amicable and the wine was better (maybe because I actually tried some). If I had to do Medoc again I would likely do the full day so that I could get the full experience… half day wasn’t worth the money.
As a side note, our guide Rudolph, was excellent. He had a fun personality and was knowledgeable about the wines. He got us all to play a fun game while making the drive back from Medoc.
