I had not been back to see the Bronx Zoo in over 40 years. It was a pleasant experience to see that it is still there, acres and acres of natural habitat for wild animals in the midst of a concrete jungle. We were told that admission is free on Wednesdays, we were there on a Thursday so we had to pay.
Anyhow, we were fortunate to see tigers, leopards, gorillas, and even the lions. However, the lions were lounging about when we passed their enclosure and did not do much activity. The other animals, such as the tigers and the gorillas, walked around close to the glass so we could really see them in action. One particular pleasure was to see the pink flamingos. For some reason, a park worker came out and chased them away after a few minutes, an interesting sight.
The park was not overly crowded, there were lots of children. Before we left, we were able to ride the carousel, there is no extra charge for doing that. To see the major sites within the Bronx Zoo takes a lot of walking but is, in my opinion, well worth it.
