My wife and I just returned from a private day tour to Cairo with Sharm Smile, and it was honestly one of the best experiences we’ve ever had while travelling. I’m writing this review not just because we had a great time, but because I want others—especially those looking at bigger or more-reviewed tour companies—to choose Sharm Smile instead. They absolutely deserve it.
We were picked up right on time (actually early!) at 4:30 AM from our hotel in Sharm by a polite and professional driver in a spotless SUV. The ride to the airport was smooth and stress-free. Once we landed in Cairo, we were warmly greeted at arrivals by Hassan, our guide for the day, holding a Sharm Smile sign. To our surprise, because we’d been flexible with our original booking date, they upgraded us to a private tour at no extra cost—a truly generous and appreciated gesture.
Now, Hassan deserves special praise. We’ve done many tours all over the world, and he is genuinely one of the best guides we’ve ever had. Friendly, knowledgeable, fluent in English, and thoughtful in every way. He told us where to haggle and where not to, planned our pyramid visit strategically to avoid the crowds and haze, and took incredible photos of us that we’ve actually shared on social media (rare for us with tour photos!).
He rearranged the photo stops to make sure we had the perfect view of the pyramids, and gave us plenty of time to explore up close. He also offered genuinely insightful history throughout the day, especially at the Egyptian Museum, where his passion for Egypt’s story shone through. It was easy to tell that other guides respected him, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he really is one of the best in the country.
A big shout-out also to our Cairo driver Sayed, who was always waiting for us in a clean, air-conditioned car that smelled amazing. He managed to beat Cairo traffic to get us back to the airport on time and with zero stress.
Lunch was another highlight—authentic Egyptian BBQ with unlimited kofta, chicken, dips, and fresh bread. I think I ate about 20 koftas ????! One of the best meals we had in Egypt.
Later, we had the option of visiting the new or old Egyptian Museum, and we’re so glad Hassan recommended the new one—it’s modern, air-conditioned, and packed with incredible mummies and artefacts. After the museum, we opted for the Nile boat ride, which felt magical—just us dancing on the water with amazing views all around.
And just when we thought the day couldn’t get better, I casually mentioned to Hassan that I love mangoes and dates—and he took me to his favourite spot and bought me both as a gift. Just wow.
We were dropped at the airport with plenty of time to relax before the flight, and our original driver from the morning was there waiting for us in Sharm to take us back to our hotel. We were in our room by 10:30 PM with huge smiles on our faces.
