Pay a visit to the famed Cairo Egyptian Museum and get lost among the largest collection of ancient artifacts one can see in one museum, the Museum houses over 120,000 artifacts from all over ancient Egypt, together with the treasures from the famous tomb of the golden King Tutankhamen, and of course the Royal Mummies room (optional). Then visit the Islamic icon of Cairo; the Citadel of Saladin, constructed in 1172 AD to fortify the city against the crusaders, the castle houses within its walls the famous Alabaster Mosque of King Mohamed Ali (the founder of modern Egypt) his mosque was built in 1823 AD on the very special location of Moqattam mountain to easily overview the triumphant city of Alqahera. The site enjoys an amazing view of the city; where visitors can watch the chronological expansion of the city from this spot.

Our guide Sultan and our drive Ahmed were wonderful. Sultan has a degree in Egyptology and is keenly aware of his culture’s history. I am a history buff and people, dates, places and events (wars, marriages, families) intrigues me. Sultan checked all the boxes. He really should be a college professor! His presentation was stellar. He hits the high points and kept it fun and entertaining. He gave us background and context. The Cairo Museum was very special but the Mosque of Muhammad Ali/Alabaster Mosque blew me away. The mosque was beautiful and it’s history stretches hundreds of years. This was a great afternoon!
