I booked a tour during my long layover (19hours) in Cairo. Based on the reviews I thought I couldn’t go wrong.
Even tough I don’t regret my tour in Cairo, I am disappointed by the service of Egypt Fun Tour.
- for the booking, I asked questions and precision’s by email to make my reservation. I had to remind them of my email to get an answer and only received a « your tour is booked » answer. They didn’t provide any details neither answered my questions.
- when I arrived in Cairo, I got to know that I had to wait for few hours in an hotel for my guide to come. I was not aware of that. Arriving super early in the morning, I had in mind to go see the sunrise in the old Cairo and enjoy the freshness of the morning.
- I had been told by the guy that was waiting for me at the airport that my guide would come at 6am. At 6:20am, nobody was there and I had to call the agency many times to have information.
- Without any apologize or explanations, a guide arrived at past 7am. As I insisted to know what happened, the guy told me that he was replacing the guide that didn’t show up and that he’s usually doing the German tours.
- In the tour description, it was mentioned of a bottle of water in the van but I had to buy mine once at the pyramids at there were nothing provided.
- The driver was professional but the guide jus ok. His English was hard to understand and he sounded like just reciting a text.
- The guide kept insisting to know if I wanted to do the camel ride that requires $20 more. As I wasn’t sure before getting there, it was pretty uncomfortable.
- The guide took the initiative of bringing me to a « museum of papyrus » that was not listed in my tour. This museum was actually a store where a salesperson was asked to show me all the store with the prices of each papyrus piece. Disappointing.
- As I had plenty of time, I asked the guide if it was possible to visit the Mosque Muhammad Ali. I remembered that in the morning we would have time to anything we wanted even a Nil cruise as my layover was super long. But he simply replied that no, it was not included in the tour activities.
- The lunch provided was good (falafel) but we sadly quickly ate in the van instead of seating in the restaurant for a bit.
In summary, taking the opportunity of a layover to visit Cairo is great and it really worth it but I definitely wouldn’t recommend this agency.
