We booked the 3 nights, 2 full days of sightseeing trip in Cairo // Giza. It was wonderful. We couldn't have fit any more into our days and I wish we would have been able to combine our trip with a visit to Alexandria and Luxor. But, we made the most of what we had.
Everything worked out great. A guide picked us up from the airport and we were driven to the hotel. They made sure we got checked in. The hotel did not have the rooms we reserved and we weren't thrilled with the hotel. We happened to get rooms that weren't clean and that's a MUST for me. They accommodated us the next day and it was a bit better. We spent little time there, ultimately it didn't matter much. Make sure you take your own hairdryer. Just keep in mind that 5 Star standards are different all across the world and we had similar experiences in Italy for example.
The guide picked us up the next morning and we started our adventure. There is nothing else to say besides that it was stunning. We learned so much. If we remember a third of what the guide taught us, we are very lucky :o) We started in Memphis, went to Saqqara, moved on to Giza to see the pyramids and the Sphinx and eventually ended up in the Papyrus Institute.
Our first day ended with us booking the Cairo by night tour, otherwise we would have been stuck at the hotel.
I would not have done any of the trips without a guide. Cairo is a fascinating, but crazy city with traffic congestion and a lot of people. You are depend on somebody who knows what to do, where to go and where not to go.
The second day was equally impressive. Your Egypt Tours put a great program together. They also give you enough time to make sure you can enjoy the sights. We went to the Citadel Mosque, the Coptic church, the Synagogue and the Egypt Museum (which my kids couldn't wait for any longer :o).
Lunches were terrific both days. We opted for the typical Egyptian food and even my kids were impressed. The second day ended with the Nile dinner cruise. It wasn't bad, and I am glad we did it for the experience.
One word of advice, do not buy the first best things you see just because you believe you get a good deal. We ended up buying Papyrus paintings and some souvenirs and I paid about double the price I should have paid after I saw it a lot cheaper in the hotel for identical items. It was annoying, because we fell for the typical tourist trap. Yet, the guide who accompanied us back to the airport, offered to get this rectified. We opted not to, but it was nice of him wanting to help us to ensure we had a fabulous time.
Believe me, we did have a great time. I wouldn't have missed it for anything. I would highly recommend 'Your Egypt Tours' and their entire team. We thoroughly enjoyed their kindness, patience and professionalism.
P.S. Our main driver for those two days deserves Hazard Pay. It was impressive how he maneuvered through the insanity of the City.
