It is expensive and low value for money. Including the optional activities, the whole package averaged at £300/day.
The tour was sold as 10Days 9Nights. I arrived a day early and was charged $100 for a hotel near the Pyramids of Giza. On booking.com that night it was selling for $45. I'm all for tourism businesses making a profit given the past 2 years theyve suffered, but this seems a hell of a mark up.
I was also charged $225 for optional tour to Alexandria, and $115 for Museum of Civilization. As the planned tour the first day had nothing organised, Alexandria seemed a good idea. Therefore I would say the museum charge was outrageous when I would have already paid for car + guide as part of the package starting on Day 2.
The Nile Cruise was advertised as 5*. I've had better wifi on planes at 30,000ft, it was non existent. This wasnt helpful using up all my data when so much was happening in Ukraine and essential that I had access to info and banking. The ship certainly wasn't 5*, no gym onboard, and the TV only had 4 channels of poor visual quality and furnishings needing some TLC. There were 2* evenings of entertainment in the bar, which wasn't advertised at all, only finding out the next day from other guests.
The communication of scheduling the itinerary wasn't clear from the outset. When they did provide me what the plan was, this included hotel accommodation in Cairo on March 7th. I said I was departing on March 6th so could this be refunded to which their response was my tour packaged ended March 6th.
The tour guide Ehab-Michael who accompanied me on the Nile Cruise and to the various temples was good as he was sincere about my welfare and very honest when asked questions about Egyptian life today. He even offered his mobile as a hotspot so that I could have wifi. The Cairo guide Mairfat was also good with thorough knowledge.
There isn't much variety to the tour package. Basically Temples - Eat - Sleep - Repeat. Of the 10 days there were 6 Temple visits. Karnak is impressive but perhaps they could mix it up with other activities instead of seeing the same stone carvings in multiple locations.
In summary the package is more than half day tours but not quite full day as your back in your hotel/cruise ship before 3pm. Be prepared to automatically tip for them just doing their job. If I were to do Egypt again it would be with Pilgrimtours.com whom I have heard good reviews. Perhaps a solo traveller offering or ability to join up with other travellers would as part of group tours would be sensible.
