Unlike other areas of Panaji, the Campal heritage area is unique in its nature and characteristics. The street pattern consists of a grid iron pattern and only residential houses fully self sufficient in their needs and demands. Every house is different in its character, accessible with well tarred roads, parking space and compound is housed with ornamental railings carved in stones, and a distinct construction technology used to construct these houses. Basically, a formal layout with a garden (Jardin de Francisco Luis Gomes) facing the river front as focal point. Campal lies along river Mandovi and predominantly a residential area, occupied by higher economic group of population. The area is serene and tranquil away from the main hub of activity.

    Kala Academy is a prominent cultural centre run by the Government of Goa, in Goa, India. Situated at Campal, Panjim, it is registered as a society, and was started in February 1970. The building was designed by Charles Correa.

Went on the Campal walk with Rachna, who had impeccable storytelling skills and connected so well with our 6 year old child. She kept us engaged, as we walked the route, with interesting stories and facts. The musical encounter with Maxie in Campal garden was beautiful, with history and music mixed in with trivia and dancing. Thanks Rachna showing us Goa in a way we hadn’t explored before! I would highly recommend the Campal walk for families.

I had a wonderful Campal Heritage Tour given by Rachana. She exudes a warmth and enthusiastic presence. She felt more like a friend than just guide. I enjoyed learning about the Campal area and seeing a different side of Goa.
