This was by far the best thing we did during our vacation! We chartered the sea ray yacht for 8 ppl for 8 hours. I highly recommend doing the full 8 hour day as it makes for a much mor varied and relaxing day. Here’s a breakdown of what we did/got:
We set our departure time with Eduardo the owner. He was great to work with before and during the charter. Very responsive and helpful.
At 10:20 we were picked up by a private transport van from our hotel in the hotel zone of Cancun. He was right on time and the van was simple but clean and nice. He took us to the private port where we met the crew and boarded our yacht. The pictures do not do it justice, it was amazing! They yacht itself was super clean and immediately we relaxed right into it. We were offered drinks as soon as we boarded. We had 4 crew members which included the chef who was fantastic! (More on that later). The yacht had 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms. One of our group was hungover from the night before and went straight to the main bedroom. He kind of missed out on the full tour, but it was his poor choices the night before, ;D unless you’re super sensitive, I don’t think sea sickness should be a concern. It wasn’t for us.
By 11:00 we were off to isla mujeres. I highly recommend getting a yacht with a fly bridge up top, because that was the BEST place to ride in transit to the island. Great views and lovely breeze. Two of our group enjoyed riding on the sunning area in front of the cabin as well.
When we got to the island we anchored just off north beach. This was an amazing beach which was great for swimming and relaxing in the sun, sadly, due to high winds and surf we couldn’t go to the usual snorkeling places. However one of our crew took us to a sheltered cove where we could snorkel.
The chef as I said was amazing. He made food that was better than we’d had anywhere else! We got snacks of guacamole, chips, Fruit, and ceviche initially. And when we were ready for lunch he made us fajitas which were stellar! It was amazing having him onboard. Poured good drinks too. ;)
We spent the majority of our time floating at north beach enjoying the sun and swimming. About an hour before our time was up we got a floating tour of the isla mujeres bay, which was just the perfect way to end our day.
We got back right on time, with no time wasted. Our transport back to the hotel was again prompt and we got right back. The same guy picked us up and took us back.
In summary, HIGHLY recommend this company and this charter. They’re amazing.
Some tips:
1) Bring extra cash. Some of us wanted to rest a wave runner at isla mujeres but we didn’t have the cash for it. I’d bring a few hundred extra if you want to do that sort of thing. The rentals come to the yacht to offer you rentals if you want.
2) I tipped $400 for the crew. They were great and attentive, and they earned all of that. I struggled to find a standard online, so hopefully that might be helpful for others.
