Life is long and confusing. For me, personally, it gets downright overwhelming. I have a lot of responsibilities and a lot of pressure. I was in a place where I wanted to feel who I am without all that. I was almost forgetting.
That’s what brought me to mountain bike in Tierra bomba island with Cindy. I am from Boston, which is far away in every way. I read her description, saw the pictures, googled the area, read the history, and just bought the ticket.
I had no idea what I was signing up for.
Cindy picked me up from my hotel, and drove us to the bike shop where she geared me up and fed me local street coffee. (Delicious!)
We took our bikes on a ride through downtown Cartagena to the edge of the beach, where we met real locals who loaded our mountain bikes onto their boats and we flew across the Spanish Colombian seas as Cindy told me pirate stories of cannon battles 300 ships deep, and would point and say and that all happened right here.
After the wavy seas we reached the beautiful humble local port of Tierra bomba island. What a tropical sight to see it was.
After the locals unloaded our mountain bikes from the boats, we rode up the beach to a path into the jungle. From there…We ripped up fire roads and single track as I followed her lead and she followed the lead of a local who knew all the nooks and crannys of the island.
The experience of actually riding fire roads and singletracks but through a time locked African village in the jungle on the ocean is quite the experience. The roads offer many options. Usually one side of the road is smooth gravel, but the other side is wild and untamed. So some may stay on the smooth side, but I found there were drops and rocks and jumps every 15 seconds of you picked the right lines. Anyone could do this, but a high level mountain biker can easily access high level lines if they want. The idea is that these roads lead to Spanish forts where she will actually tell you very detailed stories about the very land you are standing on!!
This all ended with poolside shrimp and watermelon juice while we talked about God, life, happiness and every topic under the Sun.
We then got back on the boats, and we biked through the walled city where she told me more stories and introduced me to more locals, and finally we biked back to the shop, and then she drove me back to my hotel.
Cindy gave me an experience in Cartagena I will never ever forget.
I hope you read this review and give her a chance.
If you have found Cindy, and have a chance to be guided through Colombia with her, God has blessed you with a life changing opportunity. Take it.
Thank you Cindy, and God Bless!!
