The view on a clear day is amazing. Pepe is an excellent tour guide and will help you see as much of Mt Etna as you want to.

Simone was an awesome guide! Picked three of us up exactly on time at Porta Messina in Taormina. We picked up one more couple from Germany and headed up the mountain. We could clearly see a fresh coat of snow on the top, but we were told we could rent coats/hats/gloves as needed (since it was 62F/16.5C in Taormina). Simone told us a ton about the history of Etna, and he really knows about the rock types, the vegetation, etc. around the volcano. Stopped halfway up and toured a lava tube, which was really cool. Then up to 2000m where we ran into … a blizzard!
Even though it was cloudy w limited visibility, we opted for the gondola ride upgrade that got us up to 2500m, where we got out and decided to trek up even further toward the biggest crater (and hoped it would clear up, as the weather shifts incredibly quickly at the peak). No such luck. Still, seeing the juxtaposition of jet black lava rock, snow and ice with no vegetation was an other-worldly landscape.
On the way back down all five of us decided to upgrade the tasting to a full-on wine and food tasting, which was an incredible way to spend the afternoon.
The weather definitely threw us for a loop, so be prepared for anything - even in the summer (2700m/~9000ft is always going to be unpredictable). And again, can’t say enough about Simone - friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide! Would recommend to anyone!
We always double-check the availability with our local partners for each booking. Even though this is usually a swift process, it can take up to 24 hours. Once this process is completed you will receive your voucher or ticket by email. If our local partner is not able to confirm your booking we will offer you the best possible alternative. If the new date and/or time doesn’t fit your itinerary, we will reimburse the full amount paid.
