The Islamic version is related in Surah (Chapter) Al-Kahf (18, "The Cave"), of the Qur'an. During the time of the Prophet Muhammad, the Jews of Medina challenged him to tell them the story of the sleepers knowing that none of the Arabs knew about it. According to tradition, God then sent the angel Gabriel (or Jibreel) to reveal the story to him through Surah Al-Kahf. After hearing it from him, the Jews confirmed that he told the same story they knew.

  • The Cave of the Seven Sleepers, Amman, Jordan
    Then drive 20 mins to the most popular attraction outside of Amman is Kahf Al-Raqim or The Cave of The Seven Sleepers. Mentioned in the Holy Qur'an in a Sura named Al-Kahf (The Cave), it is located outside the village of Al-Raqim, 10 km east of Amman. Persecuted by the despotic rule of Trajan for monotheism, a group of pious youths took refuge in this cave. To preserve them, Allah put them to sleep, and when they revived 300 years later (309 lunar years as inimitability mentioned in the Holy Qur'an), they thought that they were only asleep for a day or so. Christianity was widespread by then, and when they were discovered, Allah put them to rest forever. At the cave, there still stands Byzantine and Roman ruins as well as a mosque, which exactly fits the descriptions in the Holy Qur'an.

Great tour! Driver was on time (even a few min early!!) well organized and did his best to pivot when unavoidable Amman traffic left us short on time. Highly recommend if you're short on time and just want to hit the highlights of Amman. Also allowed us to add on an airport drop-off for an additional charge which was very helpful, got me coffee when we were at the Citadel to save time and even found time for a stop at the best kunafah shop in town! Highly recommend! Note this is not a formal tour and rather a driver who drops you at each location.
