The Izta Popo National Park has 2 volcanoes in the same place. We have designed hiking routes so you can enjoy the incredible views of the dormant volcano Iztaccíhuatl and the active volcano Popocatépetl. Our certified guide will explain the flora and fauna of the place. Live and breathe pure air at about 3,600 meters above sea level and 4,300 meters above sea level. It is an excellent place to share a wonderful experience alone, with friends or family. The tour includes round-trip transportation. Choose between: Level 1. The walk begins at about 3,600 meters above sea level and ends at 3,980 meters above sea level. The trail is marked sandy. The total is approximately 8-9km of which 4km are moderate climbs and 4km are downhills. Level 2. The total is 14km of which 4km are uphill and the rest downhill with a few meters of moderate ascent. The trail is marked, mostly sandy with an outward view of the Izta and a return view of the Popo. Level 3. It is a 7km walk at an altitude of between 4,000 and 4,500 meters above sea level where there will be sand and stone.

    Our adventure begins at the Paso de Cortés. At this point we leave the vehicle, our certified guide gives us the instructions and we prepare for the walk. We have 3 route options with different levels of difficulty. Well, choose one, any of the 3 options. All have been carefully designed so that you do not miss the wonderful views offered by the volcanoes.

  • Iztaccihuatl and Popocatepetl National Park, Mexico
    On this tour you can choose between 3 different levels: Level 1 = In this tour we walk along trails marked out towards the Izta volcano. It is a harmonious walk where we will arrive at a viewpoint where you can admire the beauty of Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl. Distance from 9 to 11km, between altitudes of 3,670 and 4,000 masl. 330m drop. Level 2 = On this route we pass through an area of springs and forest, admiring the beautiful views that characterize this National Park. It has trails not so marked, off-road in grasslands and uphill. Distance from 14.5 to 15km between altitudes of 3,670 and 4,100 masl with a 580m drop. Level 3 = We will walk at a higher altitude, at this height the views are panoramic. The paths are made of stone, sand and slopes. This route is known as the "Ruta de Portillos" in which we will arrive at the 2nd or 3rd gate depending on the weather conditions. Distance of 7 km between altitudes of 3,900 and 4,300 masl with a 420m drop

Luís was such a great guide, so kind and delightful to spend the day with. He drove us safely up the bumpy road to the park entrance like a champion. We were planning on only doing Level 1, but the day was so beautiful and Level 2 simply continues, but going downhill, so we completed Level 2 also. It was pretty easy for us moderately fit people. 10/10 would go again!

My wife and I are mid-50-something experienced (but not great) hikers from sea level. We chose the easiest hike option because we didn’t know how the altitude would affect us. Halfway through the hike our guide, Luis (ask for him! He’s excellent!), offered to extend our hike to the level 2, more advanced hike because we were doing fine with the height. An excellent suggestion! Level two provides a more challenging hike down than level one, and it was well worth the extra effort! We suspect that level three would have been too much. Two was perfect. Luis, our guide, was very friendly, shared stories about the area, and was extremely knowledgeable of the terrain and what we could expect. He picked us up at our rented house precisely on time. He also offered hiking tips that allowed us to conserve our energy to help handle the altitude. We simply couldn’t have asked for a better leader. We highly recommend this tour! The road getting to the park is difficult. Taxis and Ubers won’t take you there, and a standard rental car would likely be damaged, which easily justified the tour cost.

Going on a hike with Que Loco in Iztaccíhuatl–Popocatépetl National Park was the perfect ending to a wonderful first trip to Mexico. The tour was perfectly organised and our driver & guide were amazing. We highly recommend this experience to others and will definitely book another tour when we visit Mexico again!
