Let me start by saying I would encourage others to do this trip. That said, I felt we could have used more information as to how the trip would be handled.
The trip in the van was very long, with one major stop to tour an area and have a lunch, which really was not "optional" as we were all taken to the restaurant and seated. We had packed a lunch, but we could not retrieve it, so ate with the others.
Near sunset, we were dropped off in a field where there were camels. We assumed our driver would go on to the camp site, but instead we had to take our bags with us. Two women had suitcases, which was very awkward for them. The ride to the camp on camels took about an hour.
The camp itself was fine and the staff were great. We had expected the camp to be relatively primitive, so that was not a surprise. It was fascinating to talk to the staff about their love of the Sahara. The sky at night was amazing.
So I encourage you to go, just be prepared.
