With its fabulous dunes formed by wind-blown sand, Erg Chebbi is one of Morocco’s two Saharian Ergs, along with Erg Chigaga. Erg Chebbi, known as Merzouga, has majestic sand dunes that may up to 150 meters and cover an area of 50 kilometers from north to south. It is about 60 kilometers south of Erfoud town and 40 kilometers away from Rissani. Due to former caravan routes in this area, Sijilmassa was a prosperous, separate kingdom from the 8th to the 14th century.

Very well organised trip. Our driver Faris was extremely helpful. We very much liked the camp in the desert and the ride was smooth. The unsolicited offers and invitation for tips by different people (including the carpet shop, and the camel rider) were a bit too much for us but I gather this is part of the Morrocan experience. :)

My sister and I wanted a safe and reliable option for traveling to the Sahara Desert while visiting Morocco. We signed up for the 3-Day round-trip Marrakch to Merzouga Desert offering. We were not disappointed. Aissam was our guide and driver. He is excellent in both capacities. Aissam was attentive to our requests, while also informing us of points of local interest over the course of our tour. He was highly professional and friendly, making the days of our tour pass quickly! We felt very safe at all times, allowing us to enjoy the experience to its fullest. The ride on the dromedaries (camels) to watch the sunset in the Sahara and then to the desert camp was a noteworthy and memorable experience. (I would note that the camel leads will expect a tip/purchase of their handiwork when you arrive at the tent camp.) Dress for the weather, as overnight temperatures during this time of year can be quite chilly for those who are coming from warmer climates. Overall, this tour surpassed our expectations. I would highly recommend Aissam as a tour guide and driver!
