It was such a wonderful experience to see the beautiful desert and scenery. My guides, Driss and Mona, were very kind and nice. Thank you.
This 4-day tour from Marrakech to Fez via the Dades Gorges and the Merzouga Desert was the highlight of our trip to Morocco. From start to finish, the experience was exceptionally well curated, and we were lucky to be guided by three outstanding drivers - Mohamed, Dris, and Zaki - who not only got us safely across Morocco but also shared a wealth of cultural insight and personal stories that made the journey truly memorable.
Day 1: Mohamed picked us up from our hotel in Marrakech and drove us through the scenic Tizi-n-Tichka pass in the High Atlas Mountains. Along the way, we stopped at the UNESCO-listed Aït Benhaddou Kasbah, the city of Ouarzazate, and the Atlas Studios, which turned out to be an unexpectedly fascinating visit. That evening, we stayed at the Dades Xaluca Hotel, where we enjoyed an excellent buffet dinner and breakfast, and relaxed in outstanding 4-star resort-style accommodations - luxurious, comfortable, and a welcome treat after a long travel day.
Day 2: Mohamed continued the journey through the stunning Dades Gorges, where we had a chance to walk through a traditional village and take in the dramatic landscapes. In the afternoon, he dropped us off in the Merzouga Desert for the much-anticipated camel ride around the Erg Chebbi dunes. This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience: a breathtaking sunset over the Sahara, soft golden sand, and a fantastic guide who led us all the way to the top of the highest dune—helping us capture some incredible photos along the way. The overnight stay at the Berber camp was another highlight. The tents were extremely comfortable, the atmosphere was peaceful, and the whole evening - from dinner to music under the stars - was unforgettable.
Day 3: After a restful night, Dris met us at the desert camp with all of our luggage and began the next leg of our journey. He first took us to El Khamlia to experience traditional Saharan music at the local cultural center, then we visited a nearby oasis for a peaceful stroll. That night, we stayed at the Kasbah Hôtel Xaluca Arfoud, another top-notch accommodation with resort-style amenities, great food, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Day 4: Zaki picked us up promptly in the morning for the final drive to Fez. Along the way, we stopped at scenic villages and hilltop kasbahs for photos and fresh air. We had lunch en route and later visited the Cedar Forest, where we encountered a group of macaque monkeys - such a fun and unexpected moment! Zaki was an incredible guide and storyteller, sharing fascinating details about Moroccan history, the different languages spoken, and everyday life in the country. He kept us engaged the entire way to Fez.
In short, this tour offered the perfect mix of sightseeing, cultural immersion, and comfort. The coordination was seamless, the landscapes were breathtaking, and the personal touches from Mohamed, Dris, and Zaki made the whole experience feel special. Whether you’re looking to explore Morocco’s natural beauty, connect with its rich traditions, or simply enjoy a comfortable adventure through the desert, this tour delivers on all fronts. Highly recommended!
