This review is of the Ramadan Iftar Picnic experience. A very special experience during Ramadan to join a local family to break their fast in their home. A very different experience!
I was a little hesitant for an experience like this and intruding in someone's home. But, it was a very lovely, tasting and cultural experience! There is no better way to experience the culture of a country than at a locals dinner table. Our guide was very nice and ready to answer all our questions. Worth the visit if you are visiting during Ramadan.
The tour included:
- Meeting at Bahia Palace. We had two other groups on our tour.
- Walk through of a food market where the locals purchase groceries for the meals
- Explanation of the culture of fasting, important facts about about this time of year
- Head to a local family's home to break the fast. The meal is home cooked. It was sooooo delicious and so much food! We were so full
- After dinner, we walked to the quad at Ben Salah Mosque to observe the prayers. So very magical.
Tips:
- bring cash for tips for both the tour guide and the family who prepped the meal
- bring water for when you are walking around
