The company was excellent with their admin and friendliness - Omar the guide was great and the food really good.
We would say that the moderate fitness required for the two day trek is probably somewhat understated - although both in 50”s we would say above average fitness and it was tough especially if your legs are not used to actual hill walking.
The trip starts in Imlil with a steep climb out of village then a bit of respite as you cross the wide river bed and climb to the national park check point - from there it’s all business before a well needed lunch and and the. A Long haul to the Toubkal refuge.
By the time you get to refuge you will have climbed 1500 metres and walked about ten miles - but ten miles on rough tracks so harder than sounds - that said the scenery is amazing even If you are daunted at the height of the mountains and by the way you can’t see Toubkal yet and it’s the highest
Took us about 5 hours to get in about 4:30 walking time
On arrival at refuge you get your bunk bed in 16 man dorm and a warm blanket plus plenty of sweet tea and then really tasty supper - the washrooms are basic with capital B but it’s fine and the word refuge is appropriate - there is also a tuck shop!
Sleep hard to come by with 14 other people coming and going plus altitudenof 10000 ft
Brace yourself wake up is at 3:05 breakfast at 330 crampons and headtorch at 355 and you are off
It’s only a couple of miles to top as crow flies but it’s a snowy steep rocky and at times slightly exposed hard climb to the top
We made the top in just over 3 hours and was truly amazing and back to refuge in another two - legs were on fire by then
We chose to have early lunch at refuge to get some rest before the 4 hours ten mile descent - which was tough especially last couple of miles
It was an amazing experience - unless hill walking conditioned (ie not gym) I’d consider three day version
Whatever you choose Top Trekking are excellent and it’s a very very special experience
