We are a family of 4 with teenage boys, and we toured with Jean Carlo when we visited Monteverde 4 years ago and again in March 2023. I saved his contact information because I knew we were going back (we loved the area) and knew we wanted to do a night tour + morning birding tour with him again. He is so passionate and knowledgeable, and brings the forest to life. I love that he referred to the big wild avocado tree in Curi Cancha as a “restaurant” for the birds - and we saw a male resplendent quetzal in it, absolutely spectacular! He even remembered some of the birds and animals that we saw together 4 years ago, and exactly where we saw them. Jean Carlo is a first class act - can’t wait to return yet again in the future.

Jean Carlo is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about birds. Should be called the Bird Whisperer! He was prompt with the pickup and explained so many things to us about what birds we were watching. At one point a MotMot landed on his tripod and just hung around so we could get a closer look. Every bird sound he heard he was able to quickly identify even if several birds were singing at once. He also provided us the link to Cornel Lab, so we could begin our birding experience now that he has created a couple of bird enthusiasts. Our time with Jean Carlo was the best experience we had in Costa Rica. And being this was our first trip there, it says a lot about how fantastic Jean Carlo Tours can be. Such an amazing experience and a wonderful human being. If you want to see and learn about birds in this region, there is no one better.

Jean Carlo is an amazing tour guide and birder. His tour was the best part of our trip to Costa Rica. Fantastic experience with the best bird guide around. He is so knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. Although we initially had trouble connecting, once we did, it was just a wonderful touring experience. Highly recommend if you want to learn about the birds in Costa Rica.
