We took the night tour with guide Juan Jose. They picked us up at our rental in Manuel Antonio and Juan told us about the history of the area on the drive to the dock. We got on the boat at dusk and the tour lasted about 2 hours. Juan was a delightful and knowledgeable guide, and Freddy the boat captain has an amazing ability to find wildlife in the dark. We saw crocodiles, bats, snakes, lizards, and many different kinds of birds. After the tour, we were served a simple but tasty dinner of chicken, rice, salad, and fruit. Juan joined us for dinner and we talked about Costa Rican history. A fascinating and enjoying evening!

My husband and I took the Damas Mangrove Tour with Jean Pierre and had a great time. Jean Pierre had a great personality and his boat captain did an excellent job of finding a boa constrictor and other animals (tip them both!). We appreciated the boat canopy and the knowledge our guide had of everything there. A relaxing, fun tour.

We had a wonderful tour of the Damas Mangroves. Our guide, Juan Castro, and driver met us exactly on time and we joined three other couples for our boat tour. Juan entertained us during the drive to the river with history of the region, overview of Costa Rican history, environmental efforts by and challenges remaining. We arrived at the landing to be greeted by fresh fruit, juice and coffee, Juan gave us a detailed discussion of the four types of mangroves, discussed their different adaptations to the salinity and an easy ID overview. We set off on the tour which took us down river to the ocean with several side trips up some merging rivers. We saw lots of birds, particularly as we reached open water near the ocean. It was an entertaining and informative trip.
