Samarkand's winemaking history dates back to the early 19th century when a Russian pioneer winemaker launched his first wine production in the region. You'll get a taste of Uzbek wines and cognacs on a 1-hour tasting tour at Khovrenko Winery with a local guide. We were picked up by our lovely tour guide from Registan Square and taken to the Wine Factory. A beautiful dining room to enjoy a spread of 10 wines. A few little snacks were included (local cheese, crackers, raisins and nuts). The wine experts were very knowledgeable but moved quite fast through the wines. Overall, a wholesome experience and I would recommend this activity.

Had a really great time here on this unexpected and slightly quirky evening tasting. We arrived as a large group and were seated down one side of a long conference style table. Flights of wine were laid out already with little plates of snacks and cheese. Each wine was introduced and explained by our hosts firstly in German for another group then translated into English by our guide. A good range of white to red to cognac that show cased the potential of the wine in this region. The tasting doesn't last long but is fun and would suit you if you are not looking to take things too seriously! A unique experience in the region I think. Also my empty flight probably tells you all you need to know!

The experience was very good. I could taste and find out about wines which I did not even know existed. One more reason to come back to Uzbekistan.
