The Gorge of Imbros is the second most popular gorge for walkers in Crete after the gorge of Samaria.The main reasons for this is that it is much easier to walk than Samaria. Secondly, the gorge of Imbros is easier to access and despite being much smaller in size than Samaria, there are some many spectacular sections.

  • Imbros Gorge, Greece
    A natural beauty, not as well known as the Samaria gorge, is the magnificent gorge of Imbros. It is 7 km and easier to walk through. It’s almost parallel to the Samaria gorge and it takes almost 3 hrs walking. The bus will be waiting for you at the exit of the gorge at the village of Komitades. Our next stop is at a beautiful beach where you can swim or enjoy a meal at the local taverns. This walk is suitable for children.

The Gorge is quite a simple yet beautifull one, with a rather flat terrain and very doable for almost anyone. Good shoes are anyhow recommended, since there are plenty or loose stones and gravel; water can be taken with but also purchased at the "Taverna" near the entrace - where they serve a delicius Sfakiani Pita - goat cheese flat-bread pie with honey. The trail can be done in some 2.5 hours or less, but is worth taking the time to appreciate the sights. Afterwards, the bus picks you up to the Sfakia village where food seemed delicious as well, and the small secluded beach is definetily worth a visit (the CG-blue of the bottom is amazing!!!). The return is around 1630 - 1700 at the location of pick up - for us one block away from our hotel. It's a very recommended plan for the day.
